Our Story

How it all started...

Michael McCormack, Pastor of LifePointe UPC, is a 1995 graduate of Texas Bible College ("TBC") in Houston and a fourth-generation Apostolic Pentecostal. God called Michael to the ministry in 1988 during a profound dream. Over the next few years, young Bro. McCormack held multiple positions (Youth Pastor, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member and Usher) at a United Pentecostal Church International ("UPCI") assembly in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. When he expressed an interest in pursuing theological studies, his pastor encouraged him to attend TBC. Bro. McCormack left for the college in 1992 and met law student Sybil Bates while away at school in 1994. Married in 1996, the couple moved to Greater Atlanta at the end of the following year.   Bro. McCormack soon found suitable employment, Sis. McCormack began to practice law soon thereafter, and the couple bought a home and settled into their new lives.

In 1998, the McCormacks felt led to start a church in the area. They didn’t have a particular city in mind, but they knew they wanted to help people find Jesus. By the end of 1998, Pastor and Sis. McCormack had opened the doors to their first church in Norcross, GA. Over time, the congregation  moved to Stone Mountain,  Decatur and eventually Lithonia, GA. The McCormacks pastored what was ultimately known as Total Life Ministry Center (UPCI) until 2012. At that point, the family—which now included a daughter, Erin, and a son, Ian—spent the next two years assisting a local UPCI church in Decatur.  Bro. and Sis. McCormack actively sought God’s direction for their lives while participating in various ministries in the Decatur church.

Expanding the vision...

In May 2014, Bro. McCormack applied for permission to establish and pastor a UPCI Home Missions church in Snellville, Georgia. He and his family waited patiently and prayerfully for approval to start the new work. The McCormacks received the “go-ahead” from the Board of the UPCI’s Georgia District in July 2014 and opened the doors of LifePointe UPC on September 7, 2014. Having  initially held services at Calvary Assembly, the ministry moved to its own space at 2671 Centerville Hwy, Suites 100-120, in Snellville in May 2016. Pastor and Sis. McCormack and their children–who are both actively involved in music ministry at LifePointe–were thrilled to have an opportunity to serve the people of Snellville at the current church facility.

Where we are headed...

In the Fall of 2021, Pastor McCormack informed the Church Board at LifePointe that he wanted to prepare for growth. The plan? To remodel the existing church facility. The Board agreed, and LifePointe underwent significant renovations from November to December 2021. In April 2022, the church held a Grand Opening Service to re-introduce the church to the Snellville community. The event proved highly successful, and the church began to experience immediate increases in interest and attendance .

LifePointe also reignited its Adult and Children's Sunday Schools and launched the Discover Youth program. Young people ages 12 - 21 now enjoy their own worship service and messages in a separate part of the facility. LifePointe is not only poised to grow with and serve the Snellville community--it's committed to expanding it reach into a brand new demographic. Next up? Bilingual English/Spanish Services.
